Junior Livestock Programs

   

   

 

 

The Dixie Jr. Livestock Program is a fun, hands-on project that will teach you many skills and help you gain a respect for our agricultural industry.   From this experience, youth can learn responsibility, money management, service, animal husbandry, and a good work ethic.

The Dixie Junior Livestock Show will be held Here in Washington County April 26, 27,& 28, 2012. This is a free event to the public who wish to watch.  For those interested in participating you must:

  • Join 4-H or participate in High School FFA.
  • Purchase a Lamb, Hog, or Steer and have them tagged by January 7th (for steers) or January 14th and/or 21st for the others.
  • Registration is due at the Extension Office, 44 No. 100 E. St. George 84770, by 5:00 pm, January 13th. Fees are as follows:    
$10 per youth (4-H fee - [FFA members handle their own]) Checks payable to “Washington County 4-H”. 
$15 per animal (entry fee) Checks payable to “Dixie Jr. Livestock Show”.

 

  • Tagging Dates:

           January 7th    -  Blakes Feed Lot - ALL STEERS - Only tagging date 
                                     for Steers. 
    Hogs and Lambs can also invited.
                                     2800 So. Little Valley Rd.
          January 14th   -  Diamond Valley & Snow Canyon FFA Corals in Ivins
                                       Hogs and Lambs
         January 21st   -  Blakes Feed Lot - Hogs and Lambs

Chickens - Rabbits - Goats - Sheep

The Washington County Fair Livestock Show is a program that encourages the people of all ages to become more involved and informed about animals and the livestock industry. Special focus is put on the education of youth, using the animal project as a tool to teach not only animal husbandry, but work ethic, responsibility, presentation skills and much more. People of all ages are welcome to participate. Youth are encouraged to associate 4-H and FFA to learn more and work with other youth and knowledgeable mentors to improve their skills.
